Gov Udom Emmanuel Flags off Emily Haven Estate in Uyo, Commends Lands Commissioner, Host Community

In his continuous effort to provide shelter for Akwa Ibom people, the State Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel has flagged off the medium density Emily Haven Residential Estate in Uyo.

In his speech, Governor Udom commended the Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, Pastor Umo Eno, for driving the process that led to the recovery of the land, and the entire management and staff of the ministry for ensuring that the project has eventually taken off.

The Governor noted that the estate is reserved for judges, as well as senior state and indigenous Federal Government officials  adding that judges were always working, preparing judgements hence the need to provide them with comfortable and secure accommodation to ease their burden especially on retirement.

He said the government is basically providing  site and services as it might not  meet up with the taste of everyone, and therefore charged the contractors handling the roads construction to ensure that good mileage is achieved within the dry season.

Earlier in his welcome remarks, the Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources, Pastor Umo Eno noted that the Emily Haven Estate is one of the success stories of the Land Allocation, Verification and Recovery Committee inaugurated at the instance of the governor.

He said the 15 hectares land with about 100 plots was acquired by government in 1991 but abandoned over the years, with massive encroachment.

Pastor Eno, who is the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) frontline gubernatorial aspirant lauded Governor Udom for his diplomatic disposition which gave way for a peaceful recovery of the property.

He also commended the governor for the approvals for roads construction and other facilities in the estate, and assured the allottees that the estate is not only secure but also houses some federal agencies and parastatals including Police Station, EFCC, and JAMP office among others.

In their separate messages of goodwill, the Chairman of Uyo Local Government Council, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo and the Paramount Ruler of Uyo, Edidem Sylvanus Okon commended Governor Udom for providing more shelter for Akwa Ibom people and urged the Federal Government to emulate the governor by taking full possession of their property in the state to avoid encroachment.

They assured the government and allottees of security and cooporation from the host community, stressing that the estate will enhance development of the area and the State in general.

Also at the event were, the Deputy Governor, Mr. Moses Ekpo, Chief Judge of the State, Justice Ekaete Obot, commissioners, local government chairmen and many others.
