PUEM : CHANGING THE NARRATIVE OF WOMEN IN POLITICS AND GOVERNANCE OF AKWA IBOM STATE.

The under-representation of women constitutes a serious democratic deficit, which undermines the legitimacy of the contemporary democratic ideal. Parity democracy and the promotion of women in decision-making positions are therefore important areas of action for PUEM. Parity democracy implies the equal representation of women and men in decision-making positions. It goes a step further than quotas as it is based on the idea that women are not a minority: they represent more than half of humanity – a quantitative dimension – and one of its components – a qualitative dimension.

PUEM first line of action is promoting the candidacy of Pastor Umo Eno in emerging the flag bearer of the Akwa Ibom State People’s Democratic Party at the upcoming delegate election. This success will place a huge mandate on the ward to ward mobilization of women for PVC registration in voting Pastor Umo Eno as Governor in the 2023 gubernatorial election.

The recent courtesy visit to the Grand matron / Principal and 2023 Akwa Ibom State First Lady hopeful, Pastor Mrs. Patience Umo Eno builds up momentum to the organization and action plan of PUEM. A socio political organization that constitutes members of P.D.P delegates wives and women in political and corporate leadership in Akwa Ibom State. This visit goes further to consolidate on the planning of a State-wide grand endorsement ceremony billed in the gender month of March 2023. A month that set to celebrate women globally for their significant in peace and development. The ‘break the bias’ theme for the 2023 international women’s day aligns with the agenda of PUEM in the transition year of Nigeria democratic dispensation.
